Reclaimed (Wastewater) Water Systems
Russian River Utility operates three wastewater systems. Each system reclaims the water on site either for irrigation of golf courses, fodder crop for grazing livestock, or supplemental irrigation in a redwood grove. RRU is a licensed contract wastewater treatment plant operator and the licensed water treatment plant operators may also operate reclamation plants, which are similar to water treatment plants.
Bohemian Grove
The Bohemian Grove near Monte Rio replaced their numerous septic tanks and leach fields with a new secondary wastewater treatment facility. This system includes new collection lines, a booster pump station, solids removal, pre-aeration tank, a high-pressure pump station, two aerator ponds and final irrigation within the redwoods.
Mayacama Golf Club
Russian River Utility was hired by the Sonoma County Water Agency to operate the privately-owned Mayacama Golf Club treatment facilities in 2001. Subsequently, the club received a Certificate of Necessity and Public Convenience from the California Public Utilities Commission and then contracted with RRU to operate the treatment and reclamation plant. All critical alarms are transmitted to the central computer and the on-call operator’s pager.
All the solids are first ground up and then pumped from each service through 2" and 1-1/2" pressure transmission pipes. RRU operates the main pump station, the aerated secondary treatment ponds, and the final tertiary micro-filtration plant.
All treated water is then reclaimed on a portion of the golf course.
Salvation Army Rehabilitation Center
This facility is a secondary aerated pond facility, which includes primary treatment in a large septic tank followed with aeration and storage for irrigation disposal. The disinfected, treated water is irrigated to provide fodder crops for grazing animals.
